Intel® Innovation in Education in Canada
Intel® Teach to the Future
Intel® Teach to the Future professional development program is now offered free to University Faculties of Education across Canada. The goal of the curriculum is to assist teacher educators on the integration of technology into their existing curriculum. This allows them to be a role model for their pre-service teachers on how to enhance student learning through the use of technology. The curriculum features the pedagogical approaches of using "essential questions" and the creation of authentic artifacts of understanding. As pre-service teachers work through the materials, they create electronic portfolios of their work. As of August 2002, 60 Canadian professors have completed the program and are now using these materials with their pre-service teachers.

Big Wins at Intel ISEF 2002
Each year, through the Youth Science Foundation, Intel Canada helps send a team of Canadian students to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). This elite team competes with students from around the world. In past competitions, Canadian challengers have succeeded in garnering some of the most prestigious awards including the Intel Young Scientist Award.

Intel ISEF 2002 saw Canada winning top prizes. Ten unique projects each earned one or more awards. Competitors submitted projects in a wide range of fields, from agriculture, geology, medicine, computer science, artificial intelligence, aviation, and machine control. Notable achievements included:
  • First-place Grand Award and a Best of Category award in medicine and health for Inhibition of Programmed Cell Death by Purine-derivative RPI-069 by Eva Vertes of Ontario
  • Grand Award in the medicine and health category for A Novel Pathogenic Diagnostic Computer Program: Potential Weapon Against Bioterrorism by Desmond Ngai of Toronto
  • Intel Foundation Achievement Award for Fiber Optic Smart Skin entered by Pencilla Lang, a fourteen-year-old from Ontario, Canada
This year, a Canadian teacher from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia participated in the Intel ISEF Educator program, which is aimed at helping teachers promote inquiry- and project-based learning. More on Intel ISEF 2002 Canada finalists

Travel the Information Highway exhibit at the Ontario Science Centre. The interactive displays allow you to explore the insides of a computer, learn how microprocessors are made, test the latest CD-ROMs, learn "stupid computer tricks," and surf the Web at the Internet Cafe. Intel sponsors this popular ongoing exhibit at this nationally recognized museum.

Intel also sponsors the Ontario Science Center SciZone which is a Web site that lets you experience the fun side of science. Learn more about the SciZone

Regional and National Science Fairs
Students at Intel ISEF

The Intel Computer Science Award is presented each year at approximately 100 regional science fairs throughout Canada. This award recognizes the competitor with the most innovative use of a computer in any science discipline. The regional science fair activities culminate at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, where Canada's top students compete to earn a national-level Intel Computer Science Award.
