Intel® Ultra ATA Storage Driver
Microsoft Windows* XP Upgrade Notification

If you have version 6.10 or earlier of the Intel® Ultra ATA Storage Driver installed and plan to upgrade your operating system to Windows* XP*, you should uninstall the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver first. This uninstallation is recommended because version 6.10 and earlier of the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver will be partially disabled after you upgrade a system to Windows* XP (both Home Edition and Professional versions). This is a known issue and is not related to the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver. Note: This known issue should not prevent you from successfully upgrading to Windows XP.

After upgrading to Windows XP, the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver will be replaced with Microsoft's* native DMA driver. After the upgrade, there will still be a shortcut to the Intel® Ultra ATA Companion utility located under Start / Programs but clicking on the Intel Ultra ATA Companion utility will result in an error message since our driver is no longer loaded. Also, any attempts to uninstall the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver after the upgrade may result in an error message after the system has been rebooted. Additional detailed information can be found on the Windows XP Upgrade Table.
