Introduction To Intel® Modem Installation
This document contains all the information an experienced user needs to install the Intel 2400 BPS modems. If you're not an experienced user, you should use the modem's manual for installation instructions or have your dealer install the modem.
Intel has made the following 2400 BPS modems:
2400B V.42bis

2400e V.42bis
External Modem for any computer with an external RS232 port connector. Supports V.42bis data compression standard.
2400B Classic
Internal modem for IBM PC, PC XT, PC AT, COMPAQ 386 and 100% compatible computers.
2400B Modem 2
Internal modem for IBM PS/2 Models 50, 50Z, 60, 70 and 80, and 100% compatible computers.
2400EX
External Modem for any computer with an external RS232 port connector.
Refer to the installation sections that apply to the modem you're installing. Before You Begin
Before installing any new device (modems included), always verify that your computer is operating correctly. Fix any existing problems BEFORE installing an Intel modem.
Once you know the computer is operating correctly, use the steps outlined in the appropriate section to install the Intel modem. Setting Switches 2400B V.42BIS Modem Switch/Jumper Settings
Some Intel 2400 V.42bis internal modems have DIP switches and some have jumpers. For boards with switches, set the switches to the "On" or "Off" position according to the table. For boards with jumpers, "On" means cover both pins with the jumper at the indicated positions. "Off" means do not install a jumper in that position or install the jumper on only one pin (so it doesn't get lost).
NOTE: This modem does not support the non-standard address/IRQ settings for COM3 (3E8/IRQ 5) and COM4 (2E8/IRQ 2).
