Uninstalling the Software

Removing Intel® PCMCIA Faxmodem Software Release 3

In some cases, you may have to completely remove (uninstall) the Intel® PCMCIA Faxmodem Software from your hard disk before you can reinstall it.

To remove the Intel® PCMCIA Faxmodem Software (Release 3) from your hard disk, you have to:

  • Edit your CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI, and SYSTEM.INI files;

  • Delete all files from one directory;

  • Delete the directory itself;

  • Delete three (maybe four) files from the Windows directory;

  • Delete the Intel PCMCIA Cards groups and icons from the Windows desktop.

Editing

These files are plain ASCII text. Before you edit them:

  1. Make backup copies of these files under other names.

  2. Make sure you use an editor or word processor that can save files as plain ASCII text.

WIN.INI

The WIN.INI file is located in the Windows directory.

  1. From the [Intel Card Manager] section, delete the lines, [Intel Card Manager] InstallPath=C:\CARDMGR

SYSTEM.INI

The SYSTEM.INI file is located in the Windows directory.

  1. In the [boot] section, edit the line, comm.drv=ccmcomm.drv

    to read, comm.drv=comm.drv

  2. In the [386enh] section, edit the line, device=ccmvcd.386

    to read, device=*vcd

CONFIG.SYS

In the CONFIG.SYS file, delete the lines,

DEVICEHIGH=C:\CARDMGR\CCMSERV.EXE
DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\RTINIT.EXE /IO=260-26F
DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\CMGRDRVR.EXE /INST
INSTALL=C:\CARDMGR\CCMGR.EXE /D=0
REM ========================================================

Deleting Added Files and Directories

Note: If you have installed these directories on a drive other than C:, substitute the appropriate drive letter in this list.

  1. Delete all files from the C:\CARDMGR directory, and then delete the directory itself.

  2. Delete ONLY the following files from the Windows sub-directory: CCMGR.DLL CCMCOMM.DRV CCMVCD.386 EXCAVOYA.INI (if present)

Deleting Items From the Windows Desktop

  1. Start Windows*.

  2. Delete the "Intel PCMCIA Cards" group icon.

  3. Delete the "Card Manager" icon from the "Startup" group.

All of the Intel PCMCIA Faxmodem software is now deleted from your drive.

Removing Intel® Pcmcia Faxmodem Software Release 2

In some cases, you may have to completely remove (uninstall) the Intel PCMCIA Faxmodem Software from your hard disk before you can reinstall it.

To remove the Intel PCMCIA Faxmodem Software (Release 2) from your hard disk, you have to:

  • Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI, and SYSTEM.INI files;

  • Delete all files from six directories;

  • Delete the directories themselves;

  • Delete seven (maybe eight) files from the Windows directory;

  • Delete the PCMCIA Faxmodem Software groups and icons from the Windows desktop.

Editing

These files are plain ASCII text. Before you edit them:

  1. Make backup copies of each of these files under other names.

  2. Make sure you use an editor or word processor that can save files as plain ASCII text

WIN.INI

The WIN.INI file is located in the Windows directory.

  1. From the [PrinterPorts] section, delete the line, FAXability=FAXABLTY,FAXMODEM,15,45

  2. From the [devices] section, delete the line, FAXability=FAXABLTY,FAXMODEM

  3. From the [Intel Card Manager] section, delete the lines, [Intel Card Manager] InstallPath=C:\CARDMGR

SYSTEM.INI

The SYSTEM.INI file is located in the Windows directory.

  1. In the [boot] section, edit the line, comm.drv=excomm31.drv to read, comm.drv=comm.drv

  2. In the [386enh] section, edit the line, device=cas31vcd.386 to read, device=*vcd

AUTOEXEC.BAT In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, delete the lines,
@REM ==============Intel Card Manager Drivers================
C:\CARDMGR\CCMGR.EXE
@REM ========================================================

Also, delete the line,
C:\FAX\CASMODEM.EXE

    CONFIG.SYS

    In the CONFIG.SYS file, delete the lines,
    REM ===============Intel Card Manager Drivers================
    DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\SS365SL.EXE /ADA=0
    DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\CS.EXE
    DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\RTINIT.EXE /IO=260-26F
    DEVICE=C:\CARDMGR\CMGRDRVR.EXE
    REM==========================================================

    Deleting Added Files and Directories

    Note: If you have installed these directories on a drive other than C:, substitute the appropriate drive letter in this list.

    1. Delete all files from the following directories, and then delete the directories themselves:
      C:\CARDMGR
      C:\FAX
      C:\FAX\INBOX
      C:\FAX\OUTBOX
      C:\FAX\QUEUE
      C:\FAX\SAVEDFAX

      2. Delete ONLY the following files from the Windows sub-directory: CCMGR.DLL
      EXCOMM31.DRV
      CAS31VCD.386
      CAS.DLL
      FAXABLE.DLL
      FAXABLTY.DRV
      FAXABLTY.INI
      EXCAVOYA.INI (if present)

    Deleting Items From the Windows Desktop

    1. Start Windows.

    2. Delete all icons from the "Intel PCMCIA Cards" group.

    3. Delete the "Intel PCMCIA Cards" group icon.

    4. Delete the "Card Manager" icon from the "Startup" group.

    All of the Intel PCMCIA Faxmodem software is now deleted from your drive.
