Intel based this recommended configuration upon information provided by Delrina Technology. Contact Delrina Technology if you have any questions or problems while installing and using WinFax Lite.

1. Install WinFax Lite according to the instructions in the WinFax Lite User's Guide.
   
   
2. When you reach the "Delrina WinFax LITE Install" dialog, answer the question, "Would you like Delrina WinFax Installation to analyze your serial ports?". If you know which COM port your faxmodem is using, choose the "No" button. If you don't know which COM port your faxmodem is using, choose the "Yes" button.
   
   
3. In the "WinFax LITE Printer Driver Setup" dialog:
   
   
   1. Select the COM "Port" your faxmodem is using.
      
      
   2. Select the "Fax Device" that matches your Intel Faxmodem.

      NOTE: If you have an Intel 24v/96i or 24v/96e faxmodem, select the listing "Intel Corp. - 24/96v".

   3. Read your Delrina WinFax LITE User's Guide to decide if you want to, "Select WinFax LITE as default printer".
      
      
   4. Choose the "OK" button to continue.
   
   
4. The WinFax LITE installation will verify the presence of your Intel Faxmodem.
   
   
5. When installing WinFax LITE on the Intel 144/144 Faxmodems, the WinFax LITE installation gives you the option of disabling the COM FIFO. Choose "No" and continue.
   
   
6. Continue with the installation making choices according to your preference until reach "Delrina WinFax LITE Setup" dialog.
   
   
7. Choose the "More" button.
   
   
8. Fill in the dialog according to your preference. The modem type should specify your Intel Faxmodem (as chosen previously).

   NOTE: You don't have to make any changes to this dialog in order to send or receive a fax.

9. Choose the "OK" in each dialog to continue the installation.

After you have installed your 144/144 faxmodem and WinFax LITE software, follow these steps to set up your system to send and receive faxes at 14,400 bps with WinFax LITE:

1. Make a backup copy of your SYSTEM.INI file
2. Change to the updated Windows communications driver
3. Change the initialization string
4. Restart Windows to accept the changes you have made

1. Make a backup copy of your SYSTEM.INI file:
   1. In File Manager, select the "SYSTEM.INI" file in the Windows folder.
      
      
   2. With the SYSTEM.INI file highlighted, select "Copy" from the "File" menu.
      
      
   3. In the "To:" box of the Copy dialog box, type: SYSTEM.BAK
      
      
   4. Select "OK" to copy the file.
   
   
2. Change to the updated Windows communications driver called WFXCOMM.DRV:
   1. In File Manager, open the SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows folder by double-clicking on the file.
      
      
   2. Change the comm.drv= line to read as follows: comm.drv=wfxcomm.drv
      
      
   3. Select "Save" and then "Exit" from the File menu.
   
   Change the initialization string for Intel 144/144 faxmodems:
   1. Open WinFax LITE by double-clicking on the WinFax icon.
      
      
   2. Select "Setup" and then "Fax" from the File menu. In the "Delrina WinFax LITE Setup" dialog box, select "More".
      
      
   3. Select "Intel Corp.-144/144" in the "Modem Setup Type" box.
      
      
   4. Delete the following characters from the initialization string: +FDCC=,3 Your initialization string should now read as follows: AT&F\\Q1S7=90\
      
      
   5. Select "OK" in the dialog boxes to save these changes.
      
      
   6. Select "Exit" from the file menu to close the Fax Administrator.
   
   
3. Restart Windows to accept the changes you have made:
   1. Exit all applications you are running and Exit Windows.
   2. Restart Windows.

Your 144/144 faxmodem should now fax at 14,400 bps to another 14,400 bps faxmodem or fax machine.

If you find that you are having difficulty with 14,400 bps faxing, consider making these adjustments to your SYSTEM.INI file as recommended by Delrina.

Reopen your SYSTEM.INI file, go to the [386Enh] section of SYSTEM.INI, and look for a group of lines that begin with COMx, where x is your faxmodem's COM port number.

Create or edit these lines as follows, making sure you type your faxmodem's COM port number in place of x:

COMxFIFO=2

COMxBUFFER=4096

COMxTXSIZE=16

COMxRXSIZE=8

COMBOOSTTIME=40
