This Quick Install guide is for experienced PC users. For more details on any of these steps, see your "Intel Faxmodem Owner's Guide."
- Connect your faxmodem.
- Turn off your computer and attached equipment (such as a printer or monitor).
- Connect a 25-pin cable to the faxmodem back panel and tighten the connector screws.
- Connect the other end of the faxmodem cable to a serial communications port (COM port) on your computer and tighten the connector screws.
- Connect the power supply cable to the connector marked "POWER" on the back panel of the faxmodem and plug the other end of the power cable into an AC outlet.
- Plug either end of the phone cable provided with your faxmodem into the connector labeled "TO LINE" on the back panel of your faxmodem.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the phone wall jack for an analog phone line.
- Your faxmodem can share a line with a voice phone. However, the faxmodem cannot tell the differ ence between incoming voice calls and fax or data calls. To share a line, plug the phone into the connector labeled "TO PHONE" on the back of the faxmodem.
- Turn on your computer, any attached equipment, and your faxmodem.
- Copy Intel utility software.
From DOS, create a directory called INTELFXM on your hard drive. Then copy all the files from the Intel Faxmodem Utility Program Disk in drive A to the INTELFXM directory.
- MKDIR \INTELFXM
- CD \INTELFXM
- COPY A:*.*
Verify that the data modem works properly.
Use the TESTCOM program to verify your data modem and phone line. Be sure you're in the INTELFXM directory, then enter:
- TESTCOM
Follow the screen prompts to:
- Test your COM port
- Run modem diagnostics (once)
- Check phone line for a dial tone
- Exit
If TESTCOM uncovers a problem you can't resolve, see the Troubleshooting section in the "Intel Faxmodem Owner's Guide."
Install fax/data software.
To send and receive faxes, or to use the faxmodem for data communications, you need the appropriate software.
WinFax LITE (Windows* fax software), DosFax LITE (DOS fax software), and COMit LITE (data comm software) are included with your faxmodem.
Run the INSTALL command using either DOS commands or the Windows Run command.
