FAXPOP - Faxing from DOS

You can use this procedure no matter what application you run, as long as the application can print a file in HP* LaserJet II/III, Epson FX-85, or ASCII format. (HP LaserJet II/III file conversion isn't included with all faxmodems).

  1. Be sure the application's HP* LaserJet II/III, Epson FX-85, or ASCII printer driver is in the directory that contains the application's other printer drivers.

  2. Use the application's print menu to print the document to a file (not to a printer) in HP* LaserJet II/III, Epson FX-85, or ASCII format.

  3. Leave the application and go to the DOS prompt.

  4. Copy the file to the fax capture port. For example, if the fax capture port is LPT3, type:

    COPY filename LPT3

    and press ENTER.

If the document contains graphics, add \B (COPY filename LPT3 /B).

  5. The FAXPOP pop-up menu appears. Fill in at least the To: and Phone: fields and press F10 when you're done.

  6. When DOS is done "printing," the pop-up will appear again to convert and send your fax.

  7. Before you try to use your printer, switch your application back to your regular printer port and, if you changed it, your regular printer driver.
