Sending A Fax From A Dos Application

The first time you run the FAXPOP that supports HP LaserJet emulation, it asks which printer you want to emulate. Pick the format of the file you're sending: HP Laserjet II/III, Epson FX-85, or ASCII. What you select the first time becomes the default. To change the default later, use FAXPOP's Option screen.
See the application's manual for details on setting up your application to print to an HP LaserJet II/III or Epson FX-85 printer.
If your application lets you select more than one type of HP printer, choose one of these (in descending order):
- LaserJet Series III
- LaserJet Series IIP
- LaserJet Series II
You can select HP cartridges A through Z. The bar code fonts in the W and X cartridges can't be faxed.
If your application lets you select more than one type of Epson* printer, choose one of these (in descending order):
- FX85
- FX80
- FX series
For applications that don't support HP* or Epson*, choose a standard ASCII-only printer (such as TTY, PLAIN, or DOS).
Some applications don't let you switch printer ports. If this is the case, temporarily make LPT1 the fax capture port. To do this, either type FAXPOP /LPT1 (and press Enter) or change the fax capture port from FAXPOP's Options menu before printing from your application.
Note: As long as the application is set to print to the fax capture port, any document you print will invoke FAXPOP. Before you try to use your printer, switch your application back to its normal printer driver and printer port. (If you made LPT1 the fax capture port, return the fax capture port to LPT3.)
Sending A Fax Using The Dos Copy Command
- Use the application's print menu to print to a file (not to the printer) in either HP* LaserJet II/III (if supported), Epson or ASCII format.
- Go to the DOS prompt.
- 3. Use the DOS COPY command to copy the file to the fax capture pop-up port (for example, COPY filename LPT3).
- Fill in at least the To and Phone fields.
- Press F10.
Use the DOS COPY command when an application won't let you invoke FAXPOP. If you're faxing a file that contains a graphic, add the /B parameter to the command line (for example, COPY filename LPT3 /B).

Note: For To and Phone, you can fill in the fields manually or press F9 to choose individuals or groups from a phonebook.
