Only the upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic and SatisFAXtion Modem/350 support fax and communications applications concurrently. When CASMGR is loaded, these boards will be able to distinguish between a fax or modem call and act accordingly.
Configuring The Communications Software: Usually you configure communications software to answer incoming calls and disable the modem's ability to answer data calls using the "ATS0=0" command. However, this method will not work with the upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic and SatisFAXtion Modem/350 because it disables the modem entirely. Instead, set the S0 (S-zero) register to a high number (e.g. ATS0=99). This produces essentially the same results, yet allows the modem to respond.
CASMGR passes a CONNECT string to the communications software after determining that the incoming call is a modem. Make sure the communications software can recognize the result codes, such as "CONNECT 9600". (Some software requires numeric result codes.)
Configuring The Intel Upgraded Satisfaxtion Classic And Satisfaxtion Modem/350 Configure CASMGR to answer the phone on 1 ring (or more) in the SETUP program. If you have Distinctive Ring, set the answer to 2 (or more) rings. This allows CASMGR to take control and arbitrate the call properly.
The modem will continue to send the "RING" result code to the communications software while CASMGR arbitrates the call. Because of this, you should prevent the communications software from sending the "ATA" command to the modem. Most communications software allows you to simply delete the "ATA" command at the software's configuration menu. Some software requires editing compiled source code. If you need help disabling the "ATA" command in your software, contact the software's manufacturer.
