Carbon Copy: Suggested Configuration For Intel® Modems, Faxmodems, & Satisfaxtion Faxmodems

Note:
Contact Carbon Copy Tech Support for information on upgrading to the latest version of Carbon Copy. Carbon Copy is compatible with Intel modems and faxmodems, but early versions didn't list Intel modem definitions. You can still use the those early versions by selecting the equivalent Microcom or Hayes modem or by downloading an updated modem definition file from the Microcom BBS.

Configuring the Program:

Here's how to configure Carbon Copy.

1. Remove Carbon Copy from memory (if it has been loaded).

2. Run the CCINSTALL program in the Carbon Copy directory.

3. Select the appropriate modem type:

   14.4EX, 9600EX, 2400 V.42bis 96)	Intel 9600EX/14.4EX (Microcom AX
   Intel 2400B MNP modems	Intel 2400EX MNP (Microcom AX 24)
   Intel non-MNP modems	Microcom 2400 or Hayes 2400

4. 4. Select the appropriate DTE rate:

5. 5. Press X to exit CCINSTALL and save the changes.

Carbon Copy + 6.0: Configuration

Intel Modems - Compatible -

Here's how to configure Carbon Copy +.

Run CCINSTAL and choose the communications port for the modem. Also set these options as indicated:

Carbon Copy For Dos V6.1

This program updates Carbon Copy + 6.0. Intel has not tested this program.

According to Carbon Copy Technical Support, here are the configuration choice for Intel Faxmodems:

Cc:Mail Gateway: Suggested Configuration For Intel Faxmodems, Intel High Speed Modems

Lotus recommends that cc:Mail Gateway run on a dedicated workstation in a single-tasking environment. Multi-tasking environments introduce new variables that can interfere with asynchronous communications.

Here is the cc:Mail Gateway command recommended by Lotus for Intel High Speed Faxmodems:

GATEWAY database port 19200/LOCK MODEM/AT&FX3M0

The parameter "19200/LOCK" sets the port to 19200 baud and locks the baud rate.

The parameter "MODEM/AT&FX3M0" initializes the modem to operate in the manner in which cc:Mail expects.

Cc:Mail Remote 3.0

This program is compatible with Intel modems.

Modem Setup Notes:

For the SatisFAXtion Modem/350 and Upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic, run Setup and select a valid COM/IRQ combination. The valid combinations are COM1/IRQ4, COM2/IRQ3, COM3/IRQ4 and COM4/IRQ3. Because DOS communication applications do not let you use one IRQ for two COM ports, you can not use COM1 and COM3 at the same time, or COM2 and COM4.

Let the SETUP program add this line to CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=C:\FAX\SATISFAX.SYS IOADDR=0350

Run TESTCOM to test the modem port.

Configuring the Program: Run the REMOTE.EXE program in the CC:MAIL subdirectory and select your modem from the menu (select "Hayes Compatible" if you don't see your modem.) Then choose "touch" or "rotary dial" as supported by your local phone company. Now you must select the speed that is best suited for your modem.

• For the 9600EX/14.4EX:
  Select 57600

• For the Intel 2400 V.42bis & MNP Modems:
  Select 9600

• For the other INTEL 2400 baud modems:
  Select 2400

Additional Command line parameters are also available as outlined in Appendix G.

Lotus suggests using the following cc:Mail Remote command lines:

For the Intel 14.4/14.4e Faxmodem:
REMOTE COMM/LOCK MODEM/AT\C1\V3

For the Intel upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic:

For the Intel 14.4ex Modem:
REMOTE COMM/LOCK MODEM/AT\V3

Carbon Copy For Windows 1.0B & 2.0 For Intel Modems & Satisfaxtion Faxmodems

According to Carbon Copy Technical Support, here are the configuration choices for Intel modems:

When using Carbon Copy 1.0B for Windows on a SatisFAXtion Modem/350, you need DOWNLOAD.400 version 3.02 or higher. Earlier versions of DOWNLOAD.400 didn't implement the Ring Indicator signal which Carbon Copy uses to detect incoming calls.

Carbon Copy 2.0 for Windows contains a fix for the Ring Indicator problem.

Compuserve Information Manager 1.22

This program is compatible with Intel modems.

Configuring the Program: For Intel modems, configure the modem for COM1/IRQ4, COM2/IRQ3, COM3/IRQ4 or COM4/IRQ3. For Intel SatisFAXtion faxmodems, you can also configure the modem for COM3/IRQ5 or COM4/IRQ2 if your version of CIM supports these configurations. Early version of CIM do not support the COM3/IRQ5 and COM4/IRQ2 configurations, later versions do.

Memory Resident Programs: Please note that if you're having problems loading CIM or maintaining a connection without system lockups with an Intel faxmodem, we suggest you disable/unload the FAX TSR programs FAXPOP and CASMGR or CASMODEM.

Bitcom 3.0 & 3.2: Compatible With Modem/100

Intel's lab tested this software with the SatisFAXtion/100 board, and it is compatible.

Closeup 4.0: Compatible With Intel Modems, Intel Faxmodems, Satisfaxtion Modem/350

Tested by Intel
Intel tested Closeup 4.0 with the SatisFAXtion Modem/350, and it is compatible. Intel was able to take control of a remote PC, chat between PCs, and transfer files from the host PC to the remote PC.

Here's how Intel configured Close Up:

1. Run SUPPORT.EXE and:
   1. Select the comparable Intel Modem or SatisFAXtion Modem from the list.

   2. Set the port speed to the maximum DTE rate for your faxmodem.

2. Set the port speed to maximum DTE rate (see legend below).

3. Reset the modem using the command AT&F .

4. Use the Terminal Emulation option of Intel's TESTCOM program to configure the faxmodem using the command: AT&FS0=1&W

5. Start Closeup as indicated in the Closeup documentation.

Intel recommends setting AUTOBAUD=OFF when using Close Up with the SatisFAXtion Modem/350.

If you use Close Up in Leased Line Mode, be sure to disable the inactivity timer.

Commute (Pc Tools): Compatible With Satisfaxtion Classic

This PC Tools communication utility is compatible with the SatisFAXtion board. If you're having trouble getting COMMUTE to work, you may need a newer version of the program. One version of PC Tools did not include all the files necessary for COMMUTE to operate. Contact Central Point Software for an upgrade to your software.

Dow Jones 2.03: Compatible With Intel Modems & Satisfaxtion Modems

The Dow Jones 2.03 program is compatible with Intel Modems and SatisFAXtion faxmodems.

Configuring the Program: To configure the program, run the MAP program then:

1. In the Data Maintenance window, select Setup System.

2. Press Y in answer to the question, "Do you want to make any changes now?"

3. Under Communications Parameters:
4. Highlight Com Port and select the port to which the modem is attached. Press 1 for COM1, 2 for COM2)

5. Highlight Modem Type and select the correct modem type for your modem:

   If you have a:	Do this:
   144/144, 96/96, 24v/96	press O to select Other.
   24/96i	press H to select Hayes.
   Intel V.42bis modems	press O to select Other.
   Intel 2400B MNP modems	press O to select Other.
   Intel non-MNP modems	press H to select Hayes.
   Upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic,
   SatisFAXtion Modem/300, Modem/350	press O to select Other.
   SatisFAXtion Classic	press O to select Other.
   Modem/100	press H to select Hayes.

6. Highlight Baud Rate and press 2 to select 2400.
7. If you have a 2400 Baud non-MNP modem or Intel 24/96i faxmodem, you're done. If you have a 14.4EX, 9600EX, or 2400 Baud MNP modem, press ESC to configure modem command strings.
8. Highlight Modem Reset and enter the correct reset string for your modem:

   14.4EX, 9600EX, 2400 V.42bis): ,+++,AT&F\J1\N0\Q0[13] Intel 2400B MNP modems: ,+++,AT&F\J1\N0\Q0[13] Upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic, SatisFAXtion Modem/300, 350: ,+++,AT&F\J1\N0\Q0[13] SatisFAXtion Classic: ,+++,AT&F\J1\N0\Q0[13]

9. Press ENTER. Just press ENTER at the Modem Dial, Acknowledge, or Hang up strings to leave them unchanged.
