Smartcom Ii V3.0: Semi-Compatible With Modem/350 And Classic

Before using Smartcom II version 3.0 with the SatisFAXtion modem, you must remove the fax program from memory. If you don't, your system will lockup when you load Smartcom. Enter the command CASMGR /U.

See "Configuring Smartcom II for SatisFAXtion Modems" for configuration information.

Configuring Smartcom Ii For Satisfaxtion Modems

Smartcom II version 3.0 works fine with the Modem/100. For all other SatisFAXtion modems, you must disable all error detection and data compression features before using Smartcom.

Use the "Terminal emulation" option in Intel's TESTCOM program to send this command to the SatisFAXtion modem: AT\J1\N0\Q0\V0&W

Special notes about Smartcom II Version 3.0:

  • Version 3.0A should be compatible with all SatisFAXtion modems.

  • Version 3.0B is unknown.

  • Version 3.0C is incompatible because it checks for a Hayes ROM in the modem. If the modem ROM's checksum doesn't exactly match Hayes, the program doesn't work with that modem.

Smartcom Ii: Compatible With Modem/100

Tested by Intel
Intel's lab tested this software (version 3.0a) with the SatisFAXtion/100 board, and it is compatible.

Before using Smartcom II version 3.0 with the SatisFAXtion or Connection CoProcessor (CCP) modem, you must remove the fax program from memory. If you don't, your system will lockup when you load Smartcom. For Upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic and SatisFAXtion Modem/350, enter CASMGR /U. For SatisFAXtion/100 enter CASMODEM /U. For CCP, enter XCAM.

WINCIM 1.0

Tested by Intel
Intel was able to connect to CompuServe using

WinCIM 1.0 and download several files ranging in size from 1K to 567K. Intel used DOWNLOAD.400 version 3.10 and CASMGR 1.42 with the Modem/350.

Suggestions for Better Performance:

  1. Optimize conventional memory with your Expanded Memory Manager (for example, QEMM, 386MAX, EMM386) for the largest block of conventional memory your system setup will allow.

  2. Use the Ports section of the Windows Control Panel to set up the COM port:

  3. Select the highest speed supported by your modem.

  4. Set Flow control to "Hardware".

  5. Verify that you have Intel's latest SatisFAXtion software.

  6. 4. Select [Intel SatisFAXtion] setting for your modem.

  7. Modify the setting to: [Intel SatisFAXtion Modem/350] and enter the init string: AT &F \N4 E0 L0 ^M This setting works fine at 9600/14400/19200 bps.
If you have any further troubles, contact the WinCIM support forum on CompuServe. The forum is called WCIMSUPPORT.
