WordPerfect* 6.0: Installing the Fax Option for SatisFAXtion Faxmodems

Wordperfect* 6.0: Issues

This document contains the most common issues Intel has identified in using WordPerfect* 6.0 with Intel SatisFAXtion faxmodems.

Installing WP 6.0 to Fax with the Modem/100, Modem/300:

You can install the Modem/100, Modem/300 as an "Intel SatisFAXtion" faxmodem or a "Class I or Class II" faxmodem.

If you select "Intel SatisFAXtion":

Make sure the INTELFAX.COM command appears below the CASMODEM command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This configuration allows you to fax from any DOS application. For best results, make sure the CASMODEM and INTELFAX commands are the last to execute in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

If you select "Class I or Class II":

Don't load CASMODEM in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or from a DOS prompt. WordPerfect will install two TSRs: FAXDIR.EXE and FAXB.COM. This configuration allows you to fax from WordPerfect but not from any other DOS application. To fax from other applications, you'll have to unload FAXB and FAXDIR, then load CASMODEM.

If you try to load FAXDIR while CASMODEM is installed and running, you'll get the error: "Error (8): Driver already installed." The FAXB program will load with CASMODEM installed, but you won't be able to send faxes successfully from WordPerfect. If you install for a Class I or Class II faxmodem, you must use FAXDIR and FAXB (and not load CASMODEM).

Installing WP 6.0 to Fax With the SatisFAXtion Modem/350 or upgraded SatisFAXtion Classic:

When installing the fax option in WordPerfect 6.0, always select the "Intel SatisFAXtion" option regardless of which Intel SatisFAXtion faxmodem you're using. WordPerfect will then copy a program called INTELFAX.COM to your hard drive. Make sure the INTELFAX.COM command appears below the CASMGR command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Installing WordPerfect 6.0 to Fax using Intel® Faxmodems:

When installing the fax option in WordPerfect 6.0, select the "Class 1 or Class 2" option regardless of which Intel Faxmodem you're using. WordPerfect will copy two TSR programs to your hard disk: FAXDIR.EXE and FAXB.COM. These TSRs allow you to fax from WordPerfect 6.0, but not from any other applications.

If you've installed Delrina Technology's WINFAX or FAXCOM programs, you

may need to disable those commands in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. WINFAX or FAXCOM may conflict with WordPerfect's FAXDIR.EXE and FAXB.COM programs.

Sending a Fax From WordPerfect* 6.0 (Using Phonebooks):

To send a fax from WordPerfect 6.0, just create or load a document then select the "Print" command. Press either the 9 or X to select "Fax services".

You can select a name from the SatisFAXtion phonebook, but you can't enter a new name. If you want to send to a person not listed in the phonebook, select "Manual dial" then type the phone number.

Fax Option is Greyed Out in WordPerfect* 6.0:

The original version of the WordPerfect 6.0 INTELFAX.COM program (which provides the fax feature) looks for CAS version 1.2. If this version of INTELFAX.COM finds an earlier or later version of CASMGR, it will not load.

WordPerfect has released an updated INTELFAX.COM that supports all CASMGR versions up to and including version 2.01. The new INTELFAX.COM also support CASMGR 1.02 for the Connection CoProcessor. You can download the new INTELFAX.COM program from the Intel's support site.

WordPerfect* 6.0: Compatible with FAXPOP:

WordPerfect 6.0 can send faxes using FAXPOP 1.41 as long as you install an HP LaserJet III printer driver and set the "Port" to print to FAXPOP's fax capture port (usually LPT3). Intel used the latest INTELFAX.COM (from WordPerfect) with FAXPOP 1.41 and CASMGR 1.42. Other versions of these programs may or may not work together.

When loading these programs, Intel suggests loading them in this order:

CASMGR
INTELFAX
FAXPOP

FAXPOP can reproduce the bold, italic, underline, double-underline, redline, and strikeout text attributes, but could not reproduce the "Shadow" attribute. When the "Shadow" attribute appeared in a document, FAXPOP would report that the file "Does not appear to be in HP-PCL format."

NOTE: Intel had received previous reports that WordPerfect 6.0 would not work with FAXPOP. In those cases FAXPOP reported the error, "File does not appear to be in HP-PCL format."

WordPerfect 6.0 Won't Send a Fax In July:

The INTELFAX.COM programs dated earlier than 07-08-93 have a problem that will not let them send a fax during the month of July. Call the WordPerfect BBS and download the updated INTELFAX.COM file. This file is

also available as INTFAX.EXE from Intel's support site.

WordPerfect BBS
801-225-4414 1200/2400 bps
801-255-4444 9600 bps

Above information valid as of 10/5/93.

WordPerfect 6.0 Fax-related Error Messages:

When you don't have enough conventional memory available, WordPerfect 6.0 can generate these error messages.

INSUFFICIENT CACHE MEMORY
UNABLE TO ACCESS CLIENT F (EF) ',0
INTERNAL PRINTING ERROR
INSUFFICIENT MEMORY

WordPerfect* 6.0 may print perfectly, but faxing requires more memory than printing. The only way to solve these problems is to exit WordPerfect 6.0 then remove some memory resident programs from memory.
