If the system will not change screen resolution or color depth, these steps should be followed to attempt to correct the problem:
- Close all programs and make sure no background tasks are running, such as virus scanners, task schedulers or any other programs that run in the task bar.
- Verify that you do not have any remote-control applications running, such as pcAnywhere*, NetMeeting* or LapLink*.
- Verify that the correct monitor driver is installed. This can be determined by:
- For Windows* 98SE/Me/2000:
- Start » Settings » Control Panel » Display » Settings » Advanced » Monitor
- For Windows XP:
- Start » Control Panel » Display » Settings » Advanced » Monitor
Note: In Windows 98SE/Me refresh rate settings are available in the Adapter tab.
- This tab should say either "Plug and Play Monitor" or it should have the manufacturer and model number of the monitor listed. If something else is shown, click the "Change..." or "Properties" button to select the correct monitor. If the monitor is not listed, contact the monitor manufacturer for an updated monitor driver (or monitor INF file)
- Do a clean reinstall of the graphics drivers by performing the following:
- Uninstall the driver via Add/Remove programs in Control Panel
*Note: there is a known issue with Add/Remove on some systems.
- Restart your computer.
- Install the graphics drivers according to the instructions in the README.TXT file.
- Select the desired resolution and color depth. Click "Apply" to apply the changes.
