Symptom(s):
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin* game display a Direct3D* error and will not run
Error: "Fatal error - Direct3D: Unable to create device. Try changing resolution or color depth"
Cause: The game will not run on these graphics controllers in Direct3D* mode. OpenGL* mode can be used on these graphics controllers in 16-bit color depth.
Solution:
The following steps can be used to eliminate or minimize the issue(s) reported with the game:
- Edit the hitman2.ini file (located in the folder that the game was installed to).
- Change the line "DrawDll RenderD3D.Dll" to DrawDll RenderOpenGL.Dll
- Change the line "ColorDepth 32" to ColorDepth 16
- Save and file and run the game.
