Hitman 2: Silent Assassin* game display a Direct3D* error and will not run

Symptom(s):

Hitman 2:  Silent Assassin* game display a Direct3D* error and will not run

Error:  "Fatal error - Direct3D: Unable to create device.  Try changing resolution or color depth"

Cause:
The game will not run on these graphics controllers in Direct3D* mode.  OpenGL* mode can be used on these graphics controllers in 16-bit color depth.

Solution:

The following steps can be used to eliminate or minimize the issue(s) reported with the game:

  1. Edit the hitman2.ini file (located in the folder that the game was installed to).
  2. Change the line "DrawDll RenderD3D.Dll" to DrawDll RenderOpenGL.Dll
  3. Change the line "ColorDepth 32" to ColorDepth 16
  4. Save and file and run the game.
