Product Information
I heard that Intel has discontinued the Intel® Play™ product line. Why?
All of the Intel® Play™ toys were discontinued on March 29th, 2002. What this means is that Intel no longer manufacturers nor sells these products. No further development or updates will be made for these products by Intel.
In October 2001, Intel decided not to develop any new cameras, toys, audio players, or other branded products in these specific categories. Instead, Intel is focusing its business going forward on silicon products where the company has recognized expertise and market presence.
For further information, visit the Product Discontinuance Statement.
Can I still buy this product and where?
See the Product Availability and Purchase Information page.
What is this product?
The Intel® Play™ Me2Cam* Virtual Game System product is a USB-based camera which comes with Fun Fair™ software. This product was designed for children (ages 4+ years and older). The Fun Fair software takes the child's image from the camera and superimposes their image into different virtual environments within the software. Using their bodies and imagination, the child can play and move around these virtual environments to do activities such as popping bubbles, playing pinball, or snowboarding down a hill.
This product was first released in October 1999. Intel has only released one version of this product (in English only) and of its software (which only supports Microsoft Windows* 98, 98SE, and ME).
What is the difference between the "Intel® Play™ Me2Cam* Virtual Game System" and the "Intel® Play™ Me2Cam* Computer Video Camera with Fun Fair™ Software"?
There are no differences. They are just different names for the same product. They have the same camera and software.
What are the technical specifications of the camera?
The camera has a CMOS CIF sensor. CIF resolution is 352x288 pixels, but the camera software uses a central area of the image. Please note that additional camera technical specifications are not available for this product.
Software & Drivers Information
Can I download the software or drivers?
Intel does not offer downloadable software or drivers for this camera. Using the installation CD that shipped with this product will install both the camera's application and its dedicated drivers onto Microsoft Windows* 98, 98SE, or ME.
Is there a software update for the camera?
A software update for the Intel® Play™ Me2Cam* Virtual Game System is not available. Intel has released only one version of the Fun Fair™ software, which is in English only and supports only
Microsoft Windows* 98, 98SE, and ME.
Will there be an update for Microsoft Windows* 2000 or XP?
A Windows* 2000 or XP update will not be available for this product. All of the Intel Play toys were discontinued on March 29th, 2002 (see Product Discontinuance Statement.). No further development or updates will be made for these products by Intel.
Intel has heard from other customers that a third-party has made drivers available for Windows 2000 and XP at: http://www.driverforum.com/other3/5796.html
