When installing Intel® Active Monitor on the Intel® Desktop Board D850GB, it is recommended to increase the temperature alert threshold for Zone 2 in Intel® Active Monitor from the 50 degrees default temperature to 70 degrees Celsius.
The Intel® Desktop Board D850GB incorporates RDRAM* RIMM* memory modules, which produce more heat than PC133 SDRAM. This is especially true in systems with large memory configurations, such as 512MB or higher. RIMM* memory modules have a maximum thermal temperature of 90 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is safe to raise the Zone 2 alert threshold from 50 degrees to 70 degrees Celsius. Increasing the Zone 2 threshold will still allow Intel Active Monitor to warn you before you memory overheats, but eliminates those unnecessary alerts each time the memory module temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius.
