Intel® Desktop Board D955XBK
Power Supply Requirements

Failure to use the appropriate power supply (below) with Intel® 955X Express Chipset-based Intel Desktop Boards and/or not connecting the 12 V (2x4) power connector to the desktop board may result in damage to the board, or the system may not function properly.

Platform Compatibility Guide Power Supply Requirements
05B 12V2 rating of 16 A continuous and 19 A peak current for 10mS
05A 12V2 rating of 13 A continuous and 16.5 A peak current for 10mS
04B or 04A ATX12V (version 2.0 or greater) compliant Power Supply
Major changes include:
  • 2x10 (20-pin) main power connector is now 2x12 (24-pin) supporting both 2x10 and 2x12 power cables.
  • Serial ATA (SATA) connectors are now required to support SATA hard drives.
  • Additional 1x4 power connector to provide additional 12-volt power.
  • 12 V processor core voltage power supply connector is now 2x4 (8-pin).
Connecting 2x10 Power Supply Cables

The 2x12 main power connector on the desktop board is backwards compatible with ATX12V power supplies with 2x10 power connections. Use of the 1x4 power connection is recommended with ATX12V power supplies with 2x10 connections when using PCI Express video cards that can consume up to 75 W. The figure below shows the location of the power connectors for a 2x10 power supply cable.

  1. Connect the 1x4 power supply cable to the 1x4 connector.
  2. Connect the 12 V processor core voltage power supply cable to the 2x4 connector.   Use the 2x2 to 2x4 adapter if needed.
  3. Connect the main 2x10 power supply cable to the 2x12 connector (see figure above).
Connecting 2x12 Power Supply Cables

If you have a 2x12 power supply, follow the instructions below. The figure below shows the location of the power connectors for a 2x12 power supply.

  1. Connect the 12 V processor core voltage power supply cable to the 2x4 connector.   Use the 2x2 to 2x4 adapter if needed.
  2. Connect the main 2x12 power supply cable to the 2x12 connector.
