When installing Microsoft Windows* 95 or Windows* 98 (retail) on a system with any CPU faster than 2.10 GHz, the installation fails with the error message: "While initializing device NDIS: Windows protection error."
This error is caused by the timing calibration code in the NDIS driver that occurs when any CPU runs at 2.20 GHz or faster. This problem does not occur with a CPU that runs at 2.10 GHz or slower.
This timing issue does not effect Windows* 98SE (Second Edition).
For additional information about this issue see Microsoft support article Q312108.
