Upgrade to the Latest BIOS Version
If you are experiencing issues with features and capabilities on your desktop board, the latest BIOS revision may help. However, we recommend you update the BIOS on your computer only if the newer BIOS version specifically solves a problem you have. We do not recommend BIOS updates for computers that do not need it. You can view all BIOS changes in the Release Notes included on the BIOS download pages in Download Center.
Disabling Onboard Hardware Features
If you plan to use add-in PCI or PCI Express* cards for features such as audio, LAN and video, youll need to disable those built-in features.
1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2. Go to the appropriate BIOS menu:
a. For Audio: Advanced > Peripherals Configuration
b. For LAN: Advanced > Peripherals Configuration
c. For Video: Advanced > Video Configuration
3. Set the feature to Disabled.
4. Exit and save changes [F10].
Disabling Onboard Software Features
Some Intel® Desktop Boards offer special software features that allow for system management or media enhancements. These include:
- Trusted Platform Module
- Intel® Active Management Technology
- Intel® Platform Administration Technology
- Intel® Quick Resume Technology
Trusted Platform Module
The Trusted Platform Module is included with desktop boards intended for corporate environments. It is specifically designed to enhance platform security above-and-beyond the capabilities of today's software by providing a protected space for key operations and other security critical tasks.
To disable Trusted Platform Module:
1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2. Go to the Advanced > Peripherals Configuration menu.
3. Set Trusted Platform Module to Disabled.
4. Exit and save changes [F10].
Intel® Active Management Technology
Intel Active Management Technology is included with desktop boards intended for corporate environments. It is a hardware-based solution that uses out-of-band communication for system management access to client systems. Even with a crashed hard drive, a locked operating system, or if a system is turned off, access is still available to the client system to perform basic management tasks.
To disable Intel Active Management Technology:
1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2. Go to the Intel ME menu.
3. Set Manageability Feature to None.
4. Exit and save changes [F10].
Intel® Platform Administration Technology
Intel Platform Administration Technology provides simple manageability designed to easily maintain clean and stable systems in a network environment. Its main target is small and medium sized networks such as those in i-Cafés and educational computer labs.
To disable Intel Platform Administration Technology:
1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2. Go to the Manageability menu.
3. Set Agent to Disabled.
4. Exit and save changes [F10].
Intel® Quick Resume Technology
Intel Quick Resume Technology is a requirement for Media Series boards supporting Intel® Viiv™ Technology.
To disable Intel Quick Resume Technology:
1. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
2. Go to the Power menu.
3. Set Intel Quick Resume Technology to Disabled.
4. Exit and save changes [F10].
Select ACPI Standby State
Intel Desktop Boards support two ACPI standby states: S1 and S3. The S3 state is known as Suspend to RAM (STR) and provides the greatest amount of power savings. While in the S3 state, the PC is silent with the monitor and fans off. In the S1 state, a bit more power is consumed and the fans remain active. Some devices are not ACPI compliant and therefore may not work well with the S3 state. The PC will resume normal operations from either state within 5 - 30 seconds.
To select your ACPI standby state in the BIOS:
- Enter BIOS Setup by pressing [F2] during boot.
- Go to the Power menu.
- Next to ACPI Suspend State, choose either S1 State or S3 State.
- Exit and save changes [F10].
Serial ATA RAID
A list of Intel Desktop Boards that support RAID is found HERE.
The Serial ATA RAID option is disabled by default in the BIOS Setup program. To configure your PC for RAID, it must first be enabled in the BIOS.
To configure the BIOS for Intel RAID Technology for Serial ATA:
- Enter the BIOS Setup program by pressing the <F2> key after the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) memory test begins.
- Select the Advanced menu and then the Drive Configuration menu.
- Set Configure SATA As to RAID.
- Press <F10> to save the BIOS settings and exit the BIOS Setup program.
