The Intel® T440BX (NL440BX) Server Board has active termination set at the on-board Symbios SCSI host adapter which requires no user intervention. If the integrator is attaching SCSI devices to the on-board SCSI host adapter, the system integrator must remember to follow standard SCSI configuration practices and terminate the last device on the SCSI bus.
External vs. Internal Devices
The SCSI host adapter on the T440BX (NL440BX) server board is actively terminated.
To connect an external SCSI peripheral to the T440BX (NL440BX) server board, the last device on the SCSI bus must also be terminated. There are several ways to accomplish this:
- Connect an internal SCSI cable to a SCSI termination card placed in an unused I/O slot of the chassis. From the termination card, use an external SCSI cable to connect external SCSI devices.
- Use an additional SCSI host adapter PCI add-in card. If this option is chosen, Intel does not recommend installing a host adapter in PCI slot one, as the onboard Symbios SCSI controller shares the interrupt with PCI slot one.
