Here are some areas to check if your Intel® R440LX Server Board won't boot or won't get any video:
Memory Problem
Intel highly recommends that this board be integrated with memory from the tested memory list. When selecting memory from this list, Intel
suggests using memory that has passed the highest qualification
level possible.
Power Supply Problem
The R440LX requires a minimum 250 Watt power
supply for single processor configurations. For dual processor
configurations, a power supply of 275 Watts or greater must be used.
Hard Drive Problem
Hard drives that draw more than 11 Watts of
power are not supported on the R440LX server board due to power
constraints. Any 10,000 rpm hard drives consume more than 11 Watts
of power, and could therefore prevent the server from booting up.
A list of tested hard drives can be found in the Supported Hardware and Operating Systems document.
Issues Related to Upgrading the BIOS
If the BIOS was upgraded by performing a
BIOS recovery, ensure that the BIOS recovery jumper
has been replaced back in the default position. It is also always a
good idea to perform an NVRAM clear after
performing a BIOS upgrade. This can be accomplished either via
jumper or via the BIOS setup utility. In the Setup
utility, select "reset configuration data" from the
Advanced menu.
Processor Integration Issues
If using a single processor, make sure that a terminator card is installed securely in the secondary slot. This card is required in the absence of a second processor.
If using two processors, make sure that both processors are of the same speed and stepping. The stepping can be found on the top edge of the processors. It is the right-most set of four numbers and letters. Intel strongly recommends using identical processors, whenever possible, for dual processing. In the event that identical stepping processors cannot be used, see the matrix of supported processor combinations in the Specification Update. This matrix outlines which steppings have been tested together and any known errata.
If using a 333 MHz processor, the BIOS must be version 2.1 or later. See the R440LX software and drivers page for the
latest BIOS version. If using a processor other than 266 MHz, the
CLK ENable jumper will need to be moved to the 2-3
position. This enables selection of the correct processor speed in
the BIOS. After making the change in the BIOS, save the settings and
exit [F10] and return the CLK ENable
jumper
to the default position of 1-2. See the jumper settings document for jumper locations on the board.
The BIOS version on the board must support the specific version of the processor. See considerations when installing an Intel® Pentium® II processor for more information.
