Single processor configurations can be upgraded to dual processors at any time provided that the speed, voltage and stepping of the second processor match those of the first processor. The board is equipped with two on-board voltage regulator modules (VRM), so no additional hardware is required.
Verifying the Second Processor is Working
Upon turning on the system, press the F2 key to enter the Setup (BIOS) program when prompted. Once in the Setup program, select Server and hit [enter]. Select System Management and hit [enter]. Select "CPU Slot2 Presence" and switch the setting to "enable." Exit the Setup program and save the settings. When the system boots you should see two separate text messages indicating the detection of two separate processors.
