SAS Riser Update Procedures for Intel® Server System S7000FC4UR with BIOS Release R23.
Two update procedures below. These include:
- Update #1 procedures from Integrated RAID mode to Hardware RAID mode
- Update #2 procedures for system configurations already Hardware RAID mode
Intel has received several reports in which the Intel® Server System S7000FC4UR are unable to successfully update the firmware of the SAS Riser. Specifically, the SAS Riser firmware update may not successfully update from Integrated RAID (IR) mode to Hardware RAID mode when using BIOS Release R23. Server system configurations already in HWRAID mode are not impacted by this issue.
The issue has been determined to be a timing conflict in BIOS Release R23 that is currently under investigation. The below procedure is a workaround to convert the server system from IR RAID to HWRAID.
Update #1 procedures from Integrated RAID mode to Hardware RAID mode:
- Download a copy of SAS Riser Integrated RAID (IR) and Hardware RAID Dual Mode Firmware Package, FW (IR) v.01.23.00.00 - MPT OpROM v.6.18.00 - HWRAID pkg v8.0.1-0021**
- Download a copy of Firmware Update Package for IDA, OFU, and Windows* PE with BIOS Release R20, BMC Release 17, FRUSDR Release 13, Hotswap Controller Release 2.08.
- Downgrade the server system BIOS to BIOS Release R20. Follow the BIOS update instructions provided with the download package.
- Reboot the server system once BIOS downgrade is complete.
- Update the SAS Riser firmware using the procedures in the Dual Mode Firmware Package, FW (IR) v.01.23.00.00 - MPT OpROM v.6.18.00 - HWRAID pkg v8.0.1-0021**. Follow the instructions provided with the package to complete the update.
- Download a copy of Firmware Update Package for IDA, OFU, and Windows* PE with BIOS Release R23, BMC Release 17, FRUSDR Release 14, Hotswap Controller Release 2.08
- Complete the complete firmware update using package from step #6. Follow the instructions provided with the package to complete the update.
Note: After updating the system to HWRAID mode, it is not possible to return to IR mode when using BIOS Release R23.
** This version of the SAS Riser firmware will update both the IR mode and HWRAID firmware during the update, thus the Dual Mode update. This firmware is for use only when updating the firmware from software (IR) mode RAID to full Hardware RAID.
Update #2 procedures for system configurations already Hardware RAID mode:
Note: This procedure is for configurations already in Hardware RAID mode. Do not use this firmware for IR mode to Hardware RAID firmware updates.
- Download a copy of SAS Riser Hardware RAID Firmware Package, HWRAID_FW-v1.12.42-0352_PKG-v8.0.1-0021***
- If the server system BIOS is already at BIOS Release R23, it is not necessary to downgrade to BIOS R20. If the server system BIOS is not at BIOS Release R23, update the BIOS to R23 using the Firmware Update Package for IDA, OFU, and Windows* PE. Download a copy of Firmware Update Package for IDA, OFU, and Windows* PE with BIOS Release R23, BMC Release 17, FRUSDR Release 14, Hotswap Controller Release 2.08
- Update the SAS Riser firmware using the procedures in the SAS Riser Hardware RAID Firmware Package, HWRAID_FW-v1.12.42-0352_PKG-v8.0.1-0021***. Follow the instructions provided with the package to complete the update.
Note: After updating the system to HWRAID mode, it is not possible to return to IR mode when using BIOS R23.
*** This version of the SAS Riser firmware is only for configurations already in HWRAID mode. It will update only the HWRAID mode firmware during the update. Do not use this firmware when updating from IR mode to HWRAID mode.
