The Intel® Server Board S875WP1-E (S875WP1LX sku only) implements support of four Serial ATA devices using the
Promise Technology* PDC20319 host controller. These are indicated by the connectors labeled from left to
right on the server board: SATA-A4, SATA-A2, SATA-A3, and SATA-A1.
The Promise PDC20319 controller provides the following Serial ATA support:
- 150 MB/sec transfer rate
- Support for RAID 0 (Striping), 1 (Mirroring), and 0+1 (Mirroring and Striping).
RAID 0+1 is a combination of RAID 0 (Performance) and RAID 1 (Data Security). Unlike RAID 4 and RAID 5,
there is no need to calculate parity information. RAID 0+1 disk arrays offer good performance and data
security. Similar to RAID 0, optimum performance is achieved in highly sequential load situations.
Like RAID 1, 50 percent of the installed capacity is lost for redundancy.
Connect four size identical Serial ATA drives, one each to the following Serial ATA connectors:
- SATA-A4
- SATA-A3
- SATA-A2
- SATA-A1
Note: You cannot achieve RAID 0+1 when using Serial ATA drives connected to SATA-B1 and SATA-B2 connectors.
RAID 0+1 requires all four Serial ATA drives to be connected to SATA-A4, SATA-A3, SATA-A2, and SATA-A1.
BIOS Configuration:
Confirm that the Promise Technology* PDC20319 S150TX4 Serial ATA RAID controller is enabled (default) in the BIOS Setup program.
Enable/Disable switch is available in BIOS Setup program located in Advanced -> Peripheral Configuration menu.
