The following instructions describe the steps to install a hard drive in the sixth hard drive bay (Sixth Hard Drive Kit product code ASR2500SIXDRV).
1. Observe all applicable safety and ESD precautions. 2. Power down the server and unplug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable(s). 3. Remove the front bezel if it is installed. 4. Remove the server system cover. 5. Slide the sixth HDD bracket into the backplane as shown in the figure below.

Installing Sixth HDD Bracket
6. The sixth hard drive kit comes with a power cable and two SATA cables. Cabling for the sixth hard drive varies depending on which midplane you have in your system. If you have an active midplane in your system, go to step 7 for cabling instructions. If you have a passive midplane in your system, go to step 8 for cabling instructions. 7. If you have an active midplane in your system, install the power cable to the backplane and the sixth HDD board (see letter “A”). Install the short SATA cable to the backplane and the sixth HDD board (see letter “B”). Proceed to step 9.

Installing Power and SATA Cables (Active Midplane Installed)
Note: You will not use the long SATA cable from the 6th HDD kit in a system with an active midplane.
8. If you have a passive midplane installed in your system, install the power cable to the backplane and the sixth HDD board (see letter “A”). Install one end of the long SATA cable (labeled HSBP/TAPE) to the sixth HDD board (see letter “B”) and route the cable through the air baffle as shown (see letter “C”). Connect the other end of the cable (labeled SERVER BOARD) to the SATA5 connector on the server board (see letter “D” in the figure below). Continue with step 9.
Installing Power and SATA Cables (Passive Midplane Installed)
Note: You will not use the short SATA cable from the 6th HDD kit in a system with a passive midplane.
9. Install a hard drive into the sixth hard drive bay. 10. Install the server system cover. 11. (Optional) Install the front bezel. 12. Plug all peripheral devices and the AC power cable(s) into the server.
