Updating BIOS, FRUSDR and BMC using the EFI Shell

Download the relevant EFI update package for your server board or system.

Copy all the files to a USB disk-on-key device.

Verify that the BIOS Select jumper on the server board is set to its default position on pins 2-3.

If this jumper is set on pins 1-2, you must move it back to its normal position before updating the BIOS.

** Booting to the embedded EFI operating environment**

Plug in your USB device containing the system software updates.

Power on your server.

During POST, hit the F2 key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility.

In BIOS Setup, move the cursor over to the BOOT MANAGER menu.

Move the cursor down to EFI and hit enter.

The system will boot to the embedded EFI Shell.

Once the system has booted, and is sitting at the EFI Shell prompt, type “FS0”.

This should access the USB device. If your USB device is not accessible, type the MAP command to determine which device ID EFI has assigned to your USB device, then type in the device ID at the EFI Shell prompt, for example “FS1”.

The EFI update packages contain a text file named update instructions. Please refer to this file in the download to check for more details and for the sequence in which to update the system.
