Symptom(s): System locks up and stops during POST after Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16 is installed, or after updating BIOS.
Cause:
BIOS revision P05 (and higher) require Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16 firmware revision 713K or higher. Some Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16 were shipped with firmware revision 713H.
Earlier firmware revisions do not support INT19, and can hang on POST when there is not enough POST Memory Manager (PMM) memory available. Firmware revision 713K supports INT19 and requires a smaller amount of PMM memory.
Solution:
It is important to update the RAID controller firmware before updating the board BIOS. If the BIOS has already been updated, you can work around the issue by:
- Temporarily remove the Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16 from the system.
- Boot into the BIOS, and disable any onboard NICs.
- Replace the Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16 in the system.
-
Download firmware revision 7.1.3K for the Intel® RAID Controller SRCS16
- Follow the firmware update instructions provided with the firmware download, and proceed to update the RAID controller's firmware.
- Boot back into the BIOS and re-enable the onboard NICs
