Processor Speeds

The Intel® SC450NX Server Platform supports Intel® Pentium® II Xeon® processors (400 and 450 MHz) and Intel® Pentium® III Xeon® processors (500, 550, and 700 MHz) with a front side bus (FSB) of 100 MHz. It does not support Intel® Pentium® III Xeon® processors that have a front side bus (FSB) of 133 MHz. See the table below for more specific information on supported processors.

Note: For Pentium III Xeon processors running at 600 MHz and above, the SC450NX Server Platform only supports the low voltage (2.8V) version, not the high voltage (5V or 12V) version.

Run the Sensor Data Update Utility when changing processor speeds or types, as this ensures that the server management software has the right values for the processors that are installed.

BIOS Requirements

BIOS version 13 or later is required to support 700 MHz low voltage Pentium III Xeon processors.
BIOS version 10 or later is required to support 550 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors.
BIOS version 7 or later is required to support 500 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors.
BIOS version 3.3 or later is required to support 450 MHz Pentium II Xeon processors.

The tables below list Intel® Pentium® II Xeon® and Pentium III Xeon processors by their s-Spec numbers, speed, and L2 Cache. The "Validated for" column lists whether the processor will work in a dual- or multi-processor environment. The "Support: column either lists the BIOS version or better that supports that processor or why the processor is NOT supported.
