Symptom(s): When copying a large file to a USB device attached to the Intel® Entry Storage System SS4000-E, the client receives the following error message: Cannot copy <file>: The specified network name no longer exists.
Cause: This is a known issue, and is related to the behavior of Samba. The reason for the issue is that when trying to save a large file to a USB disk with a FAT/FAT32 partition recognized by the SS4000-E firmware (Operating System), Samba will try to allocate the total file size space on the USB disk by writing blank data. Then overwrite this data on the USB disk with the copied file data. During the space allocation, there is no response to the client so the Windows client that issues the copy operation times out the network connection after a certain amount of time resulting in the error.
Solution: There is no solution to, or a workaround for this issue. This is related to the behavior of the Samba implementation with the storage system device. Attempts will be made to provide an enhancement for the product in the future.
