How many hard disk drives can I use with my system?

The Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E supports configurations with two (2) or four (4) hard disk drives only. One or three hard disk drives are not a supported configuration.

Arrays are configured automatically depending on the number of disk drives detected on the first boot. With two hard disk drives, the system will create a RAID 1, "Mirror" array. With four disk drives, the system will create a RAID 5, "Parity" array.

With four disk drives installed, after the RAID 5 array has completed initialization, the RAID level can be migrated to a RAID 0+1 array, sometimes called RAID 10 array. This can be done with the Storage Manager Web UI from the Settings > Disks page and selecting the Data Protection link:
