How to Copy Platform Confidence Test to USB Flash Drive in Linux*

Instructions on how to copy the Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 Platform Confidence Test (PCT) to a bootable USB Flash Drive from a Linux* operating system.

Note: You may need root privilege to perform some of these steps.

  1. Copy SSR316MJ2pct.img to your Linux machine. For this example we will assume it has been put in /home/pct/.
  2. Attach the USB Flash Drive to a USB port in your Linux machine.
  3. Discover which device your USB Flash Drive is. For this example we will assume it is /dev/sdc.
  4. Type the following command: dd if=/home/pct/SSR316MJ2pct.img of=/dev/sdc
  5. Wait until Linux returns to the system prompt.
  6. Remove the USB Flash Drive from the USB port, or if you wish to confirm the files, mount the first partition and look for autoexec.bat, config.sys, smj2test.exe, findramd.exe, command.com and the ROM-DOS system files (these may be hidden).
  7. Unmount before removing the USB Flash Drive.

Instructions on how to use the Platform Confidence Test (PCT).

Note: The Platform Confidence Test only tests those components within the system board architecture such as CPU, memory, etc. It will not test the storage components within the Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 such as backplane, hard drives, RAID controllers, etc.

  1. Remove the back panel I/O plate.
  2. Connect a PS2 keyboard and video monitor to the appropriate back panel I/O connectors.
  3. Making sure the Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 is powered OFF, insert the bootable USB Flash Drive (obtained from steps above) in a USB port.
  4. Turn the Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 power ON.
  5. Press "Y" to agree to the license agreement.
  6. Select a test option and run it.
  7. View the result.log. Note: The result.log shows the results of the PCT tests. This file is generated every time you run the PCT and stored to the USB Flash Drive when you exit the menu.
  8. Upon completion of the PCT, power the Intel® Storage System SSR316MJ2 OFF and remove the Flash Drive and store in a safe location.

Note: The test options are "Quick Test", "Comprehensive Test (default)" and "Comprehensive Test with Continuous Looping". Other menu options are "Read Help" and "Exit." The help file gives a high-level overview of the tests and the difference between Quick and Comprehensive testing.
