Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter
REQUIRED UPDATE for firmware version 2.5.39

During the course of Intel's on-going testing of the Intel® PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter, Intel has discovered that under some timing-sensitive conditions in environments of extreme stress, an incorrect chain of DMA descriptors could be transferred by the DMA engine on the adapter. The presence of these incorrect DMA descriptors could result in incomplete data transfer between host memory and the adapter. In these rare cases, incorrect data could be written to disk.

Intel believes that this issue will only occur in extreme test conditions and is unlikely to occur during normal operation. This issue is most likely to occur in environments with consistently deep queuing at 4K I/O size with randomly mixed reads and writes.

Intel has developed a firmware update which resolves this issue. This patch has been implemented in the majority of the available inventory in our sales channel and the entire inventory at our factory. All new adapters shipped as of 4/11/2003 contain this patch. If you purchased an Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter prior to 4/11/2003 with firmware version 2.5.39** on the adapter and feel that your environment may be similar to that described above, use the firmware available on Download Finder.

**To determine the firmware version In Microsoft Operating Systems, open PROSet for IP Storage Adapters. The firmware version can be found on the General Tab.
