Versions of Windows* 95 supported The PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 CardBus adapter only supports Windows* 95 OSR2. The retail and (OEM Service Release 1 (OSR1) are not supported. To determine the version of Windows 95 on your computer, follow these steps:
- Click on the "Start" --> "Settings" --> "Control Panel."

- Double-click on the "System" icon. The System Properties dialog box opens.

- Select the "General" tab. Information about your system is displayed, including the version of Windows 95 you are running, under System.

If 4.00.950 or 4.00.950A is indicated, your version is not supported by the PRO/100 adapter. If 4.00.950B, 4.00.950C or later is reflected, then the adapter will work in this environment.
Plug and Play Installation Software Installation for Windows 95 OSR2:
Note: if your laptop computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, see "Making a Floppy Disk", section at the bottom of this document.
- With Windows* running, insert the PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 adapter into the CardBus slot and connect the cables.

- Windows detects a PCI Ethernet controller and displays the Update Device Driver Wizard. In this procedure, the LAN driver will be installed first and then the modem driver. Insert the Intel CD-ROM and click "Next" to start the procedure. (If the New Hardware Found window does NOT appear, proceed to step 8.)

- Windows* confirms the device name. Click "Finish." This installs the LAN driver. Windows may prompt you for the location of Windows networking files. Usually these are located in
C:\windows\options\cabs or on your Windows* 95 installation disk. If prompted for the M32A.SYS file, change the path back to your Intel CD-ROM. If prompted to restart, click "No."

- Windows detects the modem portion of the adapter and repeats the process above for the modem component. If prompted for other files, try changing the path to the Intel CD-ROM.
Note: Windows may display a message indicating some VXD files are out of date. To determine if this affects operation of your computer, restart and check the modem. If it will not function, see the README.TXT file for detailed information.

- For most networks, you will need to configure properties for your protocols, computer identification, and preferred servers. Contact your network administrator for details if you need assistance.

- Restart the computer for the configuration to take effect.

- When the computer restarts, the Country Identifier utility runs. Specify your location and Save or Exit.

- If the New Hardware Found window does NOT appear, you may need to enable CardBus support in your computer BIOS. See your computer's manual for information or check their Web site.

Hints and Tips On some machines, the program will detect that particular VxD files from Microsoft may be out of date. If this happens, the user will be informed that it might help to obtain more recent versions of these files. The specific files are: CBSS.VXD, PCI.VXD AND PCCARD.VXD. Check with your computer manufacturer to see if they have any of these updates for your computer model.
Note: DO NOT update these files unless you are experiencing problems with the adapter, and you have reviewed the troubleshooting information in the PRO/100 adapter manual.
In order to function with Windows* 95 OSR2, M32MESR2 places a "forced configuration" onto the slot where the card is inserted. Once this forced configuration is applied, no other card can be inserted into that slot. However, the PRO/100 adapter can still be removed and reinserted into the same slot while the laptop is running. The adapter should not be installed into the other slot.
The forced configuration on the slot can be removed at a later time by running M32MESR2 manually. A log of the forced configuration data can be found in the \Windows\System directory in a file called CBMF.LOG. This log also contains the VxD file versions currently installed on the system.
Making a Floppy Disk If your laptop computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you may create a floppy install disk from the CD-ROM on another computer. Follow these steps:
- Insert the Intel CD-ROM disk into the CD-ROM drive.

- Insert a blank, formatted floppy disk into the floppy drive.

- Click "Start" and then click "Run."

- In the window that appears, type: d:\makedisk d: a: (where d: is your CD drive and a: is your floppy.)

- Click "OK" to create the floppy disk. An MS-DOS window opens and the program executes, making the floppy.

Known Limitations in Windows* 95 OSR2
- Under Windows* 95 OSR2, once the PRO/100 adapter is installed, no other card can be inserted into the slot where the PRO/100 has been inserted. However, the PRO/100 adapter can be removed and reinserted into the same slot while the laptop is running. The adapter should not be installed into the other slot, since it would cause a reinstallation of the adapter.

- Windows* 95 may fail to reinitialize the PRO/100 driver when Windows 95 comes out of Suspend/Resume. To make the driver reload in this situation, click on the PC Card (PCMCIA icon) in Control Panel, highlight the adapter and click on Stop. Next, eject the PRO/100 adapter and then re-insert it. The PRO/100 adapter will now load.

- When using Windows* 95 OSR2, Toshiba* Tecra 500 series laptops require BIOS version 5.7 or later.
