Intel® PRO/100 LAN+Modem56 PC Card Adapter
Installs the Modem

The Card Information Structure (CIS) of this product initially identifies itself as a mobile adapter. Some INF (installation files) or Card and Socket Services assume it is only a modem, and therefore installs only that portion of the adapter.

It may use a generic modem installation file and it may not prompt for any files from the Intel Diskette. Or, the Card and Socket Services used do not properly recognize Multi-Function adapters. One symptom of this problem may be that under Device Manager the modem is identified in all capital letters and underscores, rather than a mixed case without underscores.

On some systems, like newer models from Toshiba, older versions of SystemSoft's CardWorks* (like v4.11) software do not properly recognize PCMCIA combo cards or high speed modem cards. CardWorks will recognize it only as a modem card and will install a generic modem driver for the adapter, which won't have the advanced high speed features. The modem will function, but the multifunction adapter and the network adapter portions won't be installed. Toshiba has an update on their website that addresses this problem. Or contact your system manufacturer.
