Intel® Mobile Adapters
Installing/Upgrading Notes for Windows* 2000

Note: When you insert the Intel® PRO/100 S Mobile or Combo Mobile adapter, Windows* 2000 detects the controllers on the adapter and automatically installs the drivers supplied with the OS. Although these drivers provide basic LAN and modem functionality, you should update the drivers as described below.

If you have the LAN-only mobile adapter, follow steps 1 through 12. If installing the combo mobile adapter, follow all steps below:

  1. On the Windows desktop, right-click on My Computer, and then select Properties.

  2. Select the Hardware tab.

  3. Select the Device Manager button.

  4. Expand the "Network Adapters" by clicking the + sign.

  5. Right-click your Intel adapter, select Properties, and then choose the Drivers tab.

  6. Click the Update driver button. This starts the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Click Next to start.

  7. On the next screen select "Search for a suitable driver...," and then click Next.

  8. If you have a recent Intel driver CD, insert the CD and uncheck all boxes except the CD box. If the Autorun screen appears, close it.

    If installing from a download, check the "Specify a location" box and type in the path to your download.

  9. If the next screen indicates a driver was found, check the driver to make sure it is the Intel driver you specified. If it is, click next and proceed to step 10.

    If it does not find an Intel driver, or the driver is not from the path you pointed to, click the box at the bottom of the screen called "Install one of the other drivers." Click Next to continue. This screen displays a list of drivers. Carefully examine the list. Look in the "Provider" & Location columns and select the Intel driver in the specified location. Click Next.

  10. The drivers are copied to your computer. When the wizard reappears, click Finish.

  11. Close the adapter Properties dialog.

  12. If your adapter is a LAN only product you are done. If your adapter is a combo product, proceed to step 13.

  13. To update the modem driver, double-click the Modems device in the Device Manager.

  14. Right-click the Intel modem and select Properties. On the dialog that appears, select the Driver tab.

  15. Repeat steps 6 through 12 above.

  16. Close the Device Manager, and then click OK on the Systems Properties window to close it.

  17. Restart the Computer, if prompted.

Installing Graphic Utility

  1. After installing base drivers, run the Setup program on the Intel CD or from the download folder, to install the Intel PROSet utility.

  2. When the initial screen comes up, click on the items you wish to install, and the click Install.

  3. When the program is finished installing, you will return to the initial setup screen. Click Finish.
