Intel® PRO/10GbE LR Server Adapter
Physical Installation Issues

The Intel® PRO/10GbE LR Server Adapter is a full size PCI card (4.2inches X 12.283 inches). To install this product, your chassis must allow for a full-length board. Furthermore, there is minimal clearance underneath the adapter.

Since the adapter is a full-length board, it will extend the entire length of the chassis from front to back. As part of the installation planning, be sure that there is nothing on the system board behind the slot higher than the height of the slot. If there is, it will interfere with the physical placement of the adapter. Also, make sure there is nothing that could touch the adapter and potentially cause an electrical short circuit.

It has been noted in some chassis that flat cable connectors (of the type typically used to connect diskette drives) at the edge of the motherboard may interfere with the adapter installation due to the additional height introduced by the cable connector strain relief. This type of cable end can be identified by the fact that the cable loops back across the connector through a retaining clip. In many cases, replacing this type of cable with one that lacks the strain relief allows the necessary clearance. In flat cable ends without the strain relief, the cable enters the cable end connector at a 90 angle and does not loop back through it.
