Q. What is the switching silicon used in the ZT 8102?

A. The ZT 8102 switch is based on the Intel® Media Switch IXE5416 16 port Gigabit device. The Intel Media Switch IXE5416 16 port Gigabit device supports wire-speed switching and IP routing, along with traffic classification, Quality of Service (QoS), filtering, and prioritization based on Layer 2/3/4 information. The Intel Media Switch IXE5416 16 port Gigabit device offers non-blocking performance on all ports, switching packets at the rate of 24 Mpps (64-byte packet size).

Q. How do I purchase the ZT 8102 switch?

A. The ZT 8102 switch, as with Intel's other building blocks, is available through our standard authorized distributors. Direct sales are available to Intel Communication Alliance (ICA's) and Tier 1 OEMs.

Q. Is there any hardware difference between the ZT 8102 switch and the ZT 8102HA?

A. No. Both SKUs contain the same hardware. The software is similar except the ZT 8102 Switch has additional software to support high availability.

Q. If the hardware is the same, can a customer load the ZT 8102HA switch software on the ZT 8102?

A. While both versions of the software will have upgrades and updates from time to time, provision is not made for a user to interchange between the standard and HA versions of the software.

Q. Is a rear transition board (RTM) available for the ZT 8102?

A. Yes. ZNYX networks have a 14 port RTM module, ZXRTB14, that is tested with the ZT 8102. With the RTM, the ZT 8102 switch can be used in a non-2.16 chassis to provide 14 ports of Gigabit Ethernet through the RTM. Some customers have used the ZT 8102 switch in combination with a 1U or 2U chassis to create a powerful desktop switch, or an appliance application.
