Developing applications on and for IA-32 or Intel® 64 architecture systems or systems with AMD* Opteron* processors
One of the following Microsoft development software tools is required:
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2005* Premier Partner Edition (IA-32 and Intel® 64 architectures only, included with some license types - see below)
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2008* Standard, Professional or Team System Edition (with C++ component installed)
- Development for Intel® 64 architecture systems requires that the "x64 Compiler and Tools" component of Visual Studio be installed. For Visual Studio Professional Edition and above, select a "Custom" install and select this component.
- Use with Mcrosoft Visual Studio 2008 requires Intel Visual Fortran Compiler version 10.1.019 or later.
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003* (with C++ component installed, IA-32 architecture only)
Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003* Standard Edition (IA-32 architecture only)
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK* or Windows Software Development Kit Update for Windows Vista* (Intel® 64 architecture only) If this Platform SDK is installed, you can develop applications for the Intel® 64 architecture platform using command line tools.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 or 2008 Express Edition* (IA-32 architecture only) This enables use of the compiler from the command line only; the visual development environment, including the Visual Studio Debugger, is not enabled. For Fortran development with Visual C++ Express Edition, you must also install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK* or Windows Software Development Kit Update for Windows Vista*. If you choose this option, download and install the w_fc_p_10.1.xxx_IA32.exe package only; do not install a package that includes Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition is included with the following license types of Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler:
- Commercial license for the Standard, Professional and Professional with IMSL Editions
- Academic license for the Standard, Professional and Professional with IMSL Editions
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition is not included with the following license types of Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler:
- Evaluation or Student license
- Intel® Compiler Suite Professional Edition (includes C++ and Fortran compilers plus performance libraries)
- Intel® Compiler Suite Cluster Edition (includes C++ and Fortran compilers plus cluster libraries)
On IA-32 and Intel® 64 architecture systems, if Microsoft Visual Studio is not found and the CD or w_fc_p_10.1.xxx.exe download installer is used, Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition will be installed. Installers for single architectures and those with NOVSPPE in the name do not install Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition.
Note: Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002* is not supported
Developing applications for IA-64 architecture systems
One of the following must be installed:
Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK*
- Visual Studio is not supported for installation on an IA-64 system
- If Visual Studio Team System Edition is not installed, only the command line development tools are available

Developing applications for IA-32 systems
One of the following Microsoft development products must be installed:
- Visual C++* .NET* 2002 or 2003, Standard edition or above
- Visual Studio* .NET* 2002 or 2003, any edition, with Visual C++ component installed
- Visual Studio* 2005, Standard edition or above, with Visual C++ component installed
- Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition, supported for command-line development only - the visual development environment is not supported
For development of IA-32 applications on Windows* XP Professional x64 Edition or Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, only the 2003 and 2005 versions of the Microsoft development environments are supported.
If using Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition, installation of the Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK* (Core SDK - PSDK-x86.exe) is required for applications that make use of the Win32 API.
Use of command-line tools for building is supported only if one of the above required Microsoft development products is installed. The Microsoft* Platform SDK alone is not sufficient.
Developing Applications for Systems with Intel® 64 Architecture or AMD Opteron Processors
One of the following Microsoft development products must be installed:
- Visual Studio 2005, Standard edition or above, with Visual C++ and "X64 Compiler and Tools" components installed (Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition does not require explicit selection of the X64 component.).
- Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK* Download and run the PSDK appropriate to the host system (the one you are using for development.) Only the "Core SDK" is required. Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK has not yet been tested for compatibility.
Use of command-line tools for building is supported only if one of the above required Microsoft development products is installed.
Developing Applications for IA-64 architecture systems
One of the following Microsoft development products must be installed:
- For development on IA-32 or Intel EM64T systems, Visual Studio 2005, Team System edition or above, with Visual C++ and "Itanium Compiler and Tools" components installed.
- Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK* Download and run the PSDK appropriate to the host system (the one you are using for development.) Only the "Core SDK" is required. Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK has not yet been tested for compatibility.
Use of command-line tools for building is supported only if one of the above required Microsoft development products is installed.
