General installation information

What software must already be installed?
Before installing Intel® Thread Checker onto Microsoft Windows*, you must have the VTune™ Performance Analyzer v7.2 or higher already installed, as Intel® Thread Checker is a plug-in to the VTune™ environment. Visit the Intel® Threading Tools Web site to obtain VTune Performance Analyzer and/or Intel Thread Checker.

On Microsoft Windows systems, you must also have the following already installed:

  • Microsoft Visual* C++ v6.0, or higher
  • Intel® Compilers are required for source instrumentation or OpenMP* analysis.
  • Microsoft* Internet Explorer v6.0, or higher
  • Adobe* Reader*

To use the Linux* Remote Data Collector (Remote Agent), you must also install Intel Thread Checker on a Microsoft Windows system.

Installing a New Version Over an Already Installed Version
To install a new version of Intel Thread Checker, you must first uninstall the currently installed version.

Note: Before removing the current version from Windows, you might want to save your projects using File » Pack and Go menu in the VTune environment.

To remove the currently installed version from Windows*, go to Start » Control Panel » Add or Remove Programs » Intel® Thread Checker.

To remove the currently installed version from Linux, run uninstall32.sh or uninstall64.sh, which is typically found in the /opt/intel/itt directory.

Integration with Microsoft .NET* Developer Environment

How do I get Intel Thread Checker to install into the Microsoft .NET Developer Environment?
You may already have this integration. Check in the .NET* Developer Environment by right-clicking in the menu area and be sure that the VTune™ Performance Tools menu is enabled. If you don't see VTune™ Performance Tools in the list, follow these steps:

  1. Install Microsoft .NET Developer Environment before installing VTune Performance Analyzer. If VTune Performance Analyzer must be uninstalled, then uninstall Intel Thread Checker first.
  2. When installing VTune Performance Analyzer, select integration with the Microsoft .NET Developer Environment when prompted by a dialog. Note: Integration with the Microsoft .NET Developer Environment is not a default installer option, so you must select it.
  3. Install Intel Thread Checker. The Thread Checker installer will default to integration with the Microsoft .NET Developer Environment, because VTune™ Performance Analyzer is already integrated.

General Installation Tips for Windows*

  • To install a new version of Intel Thread Checker, you should first uninstall the current version. Before removing Thread Checker, you might want to save your projects using File » Pack and Go menu in the VTune environment.
  • Before installing Thread Checker, you must have the VTune Performance Analyzer v7.2 or higher already installed. For more product information, visit the Intel® Threading Tools Web site.
  • VTune Performance Analyzer should not be started (open or running) when you install Thread Checker.
  • Microsoft Visual* C++ Developer Studio* or Microsoft .NET Developer Environment should not be started (open or running) when you install Thread Checker. But these should be installed before installing Intel Thread Checker.
  • Close any Intel® Compiler command-prompt (DOS*) windows before installing Thread Checker.
  • As with the VTune Performance Analyzer product, you must have local (system) administrator rights to install and use this product.
  • Intel Thread Checker requires a license (.lic) file for installation. For more license information, see the Thread Checker license page.
  • Thread Checker will not be available or usable if VTune Performance Analyzer is uninstalled. Furthermore, Thread Checker itself should be uninstalled before uninstalling VTune Performance Analyzer.

Can I install onto Microsoft Windows* 2000 Server using Terminal Services*?
To install Intel Thread Checker via the Terminal Services* client onto a Microsoft Windows* 2000 Server (any edition), the server must have the following set:

  • Start » Settings » Control Panel » Terminal Services Configuration » Server Settings » Use temporary folder per session set option to No.

A server reboot is not necessary. After the installation has completed, the client must log off (not just disconnect) from the server before using Intel® Thread Checker.
