Intel® Pocket Concert™ Audio Player
Error in Device Manager After Updating Audio Player Drivers for Windows XP*

Symptom(s):

  • Error in Device Manager after updating audio player drivers for Windows XP*
  • Error: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
  • Windows XP driver update for the audio player is not successful

Cause:
Driver update file downloaded from the support website may be corrupted.

Solution:
To resolve this problem:

  1. Go to the C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTEL\INTEL POCKET CONCERT\DRIVERSXP2K\ directory. This is where the Windows* XP update files would have extracted themselves to. You should find the following files -- Delete them all:
    drivers_2kxp.htm
    iaud2com.dll
    iauddfu.sys
    iaudusb.sys
    idap_sp.dll
    idapusb.cat
    inteldap.inf

  2. Download the update file DAP2KXP.EXE again and run it to re-extract the files; however, this time when it asks you where to extract the files to, enter a different directory name than the default (e.g., C:\TEMP).

  3. Now try updating the Windows XP driver for the player, using the following installation instructions:
    1. Plug the audio player into a USB port on your computer.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and choose Properties.
    3. Go to the Hardware tab.
    4. Go to Device Manager.
    5. Double-click USB Controllers.
    6. Double-click USB Composite Device.
    7. Click the Driver tab.
    8. Click Update Driver, and then click Next.
    9. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next.
    10. Select ONLY Include this location in the search and click Browse.
    11. Browse to the directory where you previously extracted the update files and click OK.
    12. Click Next, and then Finish to complete the update to your Player's driver.
    13. Close the Control Panel.
