This document contains information about the use of the CD Player keys on the Intel® Wired Keyboard and the Intel® Wireless Series Keyboard. The keyboard includes keys that let you control the Windows* CD Player on your computer. The CD Player Key actions appear on the screen when you press a CD Player Key on your keyboard. For example, if you press the Play key on your keyboard, the word "Play" appears on your screen and disappears after a few seconds.
Microsoft* CD Player required
Microsoft* CD Player is currently the only audio player that works with the CD Player keys in Windows* 95, 98 and 98 SE. You may see warnings if another audio player is the default player on your computer:
- If Setup detects that the Microsoft* CD Player is not the default player, the following message is displayed:

"The CD player keys on your keyboard require the Windows* CD player. Setup has detected another application as your default audio CD player. Do you want setup to change your default CD player to the Windows* CD player?"
When pressing CD Player keys if Microsoft* CD Player is not the default audio player, you'll see this warning:

"To use your Intel® Keyboard CD Keys, your CD Player default needs to be the MS CD Player. Would you like to reset your default CD Player now?
If you choose not to make MS CD Player the default audio player, you won't be able to control CD audio using the keys on your keyboard.
Notes: Microsoft* CD Player is NOT the same thing as Microsoft* Media Player. Windows* Millennium Edition does not require Microsoft* CD Player.
CD Player Keys and Windows* Millennium
In order for the CD Player keys to work on a system running Windows* Millennium Edition, a multi-media application compatible with the operating system, such as Windows* Media Player, must already be open and have focus (be the foreground application).
When using the Intel® Wireless Series Keyboard on a system running Windows* Millennium Edition, the keyboard's multi-media functions are not shown on-screen.
Keys don't work if Setup not run
If you used only the INF files when installing the keyboard (and did not run SETUP from the installation CD), you are in NATIVE MODE". The keyboard will function as a keyboard, however, the special keys will not work. They depend on DirectX 7*, which gets installed by running Setup.
