Upgrading TrueSync Desktop* or TrueSync Plus* When Previous Versions Are Install

This procedure allows you to upgrade to the newest version of TrueSync Desktop* or TrueSync Plus* when previous versions of TrueSync* Desktop* or TrueSync* Plus* reside on your computer.

Remove all files and folders of previous versions of TrueSync Desktop or TrueSync Plus:

  1. Back up your User data files to a floppy disk. Your User data files reside in C:\Program Files\Starfish\TrueSync Desktop\UserData.
    1. Insert a 3-1/2" floppy disk into the drive.

    2. Click Start, Programs, Windows Explorer*.

    3. Expand the (C:) drive by clicking the plus sign "+"next to it.

    4. Expand the "Program Files" folder, and then expand the Starfish folder.

    5. Expand the TrueSync Desktop folder. Right-click the UserData folder.

    6. On the shortcut menu, point to Send To, and then click 3-1/2 Floppy (A drive). Your User data files are copied to the disk.

  2. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel. Double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

  3. In the list, click the TrueSync Desktop* program, and then click Add/Remove.

  4. In the Application Removal dialog box, click Yes when you are prompted. The program is removed automatically.

  5. Delete the Starfish folder.

  6. In Windows Explorer*, click the Starfish folder (see Step 1), and then click the Delete button on the toolbar.

    Warning: The following procedure changes the system registry. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in loss of data or system operation. We strongly recommend making a copy of your registry before proceeding. Please consult your Microsoft documentation for detailed instructions for creating a registry backup.

  7. In the registry, delete the Starfish folder.

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.

    2. Type REGEDIT in the Open box, and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.

    3. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder by clicking the plus sign (+) next to it.

    4. Expand the SOFTWARE folder.

    5. Click the Starfish folder, and then press Delete.

  8. Restart your computer, and install the newest version of TrueSync* Desktop* or TrueSync* Plus*.

  9. Copy your User data backup files from your disk into C:\Program Files\Starfish\TrueSync Desktop\UserData.

    1. Insert into the drive the disk containing your backup files.

    2. Click Start, Programs, Windows* Explorer*.

    3. Click 3-1/2 floppy (A:). Your User data backup files appear in the right pane of the Windows Explorer window.

    4. On the Edit menu, click Select All, and then click Copy on the toolbar.

    5. Click the UserData folder (see Step 1), and then click the Paste button on the toolbar. Your User data files are restored but you will not see them unless you open each file.

To Open User Data Files:

  1. Click the Calendar icon, click File, and then click Open Calendar.

  2. Click the Cardfile icon, click File and then click Open Cardfile.

  3. Click the Memo icon, click File, and then click Open Memos.
