The performance is poor with the Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX technology installed Symptom:
The performance is poor with the Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX technology installed.

Description:
The Pentium® OverDrive® processor with MMX™ technology fan fail mechanism is enabled. If the fan is removed or not functioning, the performance of the processor will drop significantly.

Also, if the system does not provide 5V to the socket to power the fan, the fan will not function and the performance of the processor will drop significantly.

Solution:
Make sure the fan is running when the system power is on. If the fan does not turn and there is nothing wrong with the contacts, then this system is not upgradeable. Check to see if the system has a second socket. If it does, install the OverDrive processor into the second socket.

The system boots with the L1 or L2 cache disabled

Symptom:
The performance of the computer drops and the user notices that the L1 or L2 cache has been disabled.

Description:
BIOS code may perform cache testing or use the CPUID to determine cache size. If the cache is not the expected size, it will be disabled. If the CPUID is not recognized correctly, the cache may be disabled.

Solution:
A BIOS update is required.
