Pentium® OverDrive® Processors with MMX? Technology
Peripheral Hardware Questions

  • Software won't load: If you have installed the CD that came with the Pentium® OverDrive® processor and the software would not load, then follow these steps to resolve the problem:

    1. If you have Windows* 95, ensure Autoplay is enabled by following the steps below:
      • Highlight "My Computer" and click on it with the right mouse button.
      • Select "Properties".
      • Select "Device Manager".
      • Double click on the CD-ROM icon.
      • Highlight the manufacturer of the current CD-ROM drive.
      • Select "Properties".
      • Select "Settings".
      • Click the "Auto insert notification".
      • Click "OK".
      • Click "OK".
    2. Ensure the surface of the CD-ROM is clean by gently rubbing it from the center outwards with a soft cloth.

    3. Ensure no files from a failed installation of the CD-Sampler are stored on the hard drive by verifying that "MMX_CD" does not appear in the C drive. Follow the steps below:
      • Select "Start", "Programs", "Windows Explorer" and delete any "MMX-CD" files that may be present.
      • Close down and restart the PC.
      • Insert the CD-Sampler and WAIT for Autoplay to activate the CD-Sampler (note this could take up to 40 seconds).
      • If nothing happens, try another CD with the Autoplay facility so that the CD-ROM drive recognizes a different CD has been installed.
      • Remove the CD and replace it with the CD-Sampler.
      • Select "Start", "Programs", "Windows Explorer", "Windows '95", "MMX CD-ROM", "Facts" and double click on "setupWin'95.exe".
      • The installation of the CD-Sampler will proceed.
  • Device overflow error while loading Windows* 95: If your Packard Bell* system is using the Panasonic* CR 582-xxx CD-ROM drive and you see this error, it is because Windows* 95 has been installed over Windows* 3.1 or 3.11 and the original Panasonic* ATAPI driver hasn't been updated. To resolve the problem, do the following:
    1. Place the original processor back in the system.
    2. Start Windows 95.
    3. Open the Control Panel, choose "Add New Hardware".
    4. Choose "CD-ROM controller".
    5. Choose "MKE Panasonic" as the drive type.
    6. Choose "Finish".
    7. DO NOT restart the computer at this time.
    8. Select the start button and choose run
    9. Enter the file name "sysedit".
    10. Create backup copies of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, then enter 'REM' at the beginning of the lines with MSCDEX.
    11. Power the system down and reinstall the Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX Technology.
