** The average plating thickness listed is not a recommendation, but rather a measure of what was used for qualification testing. Intel recommends use of gold plating that meets or exceeds the thickness used for the qualification testing for each socket as listed, but not less than 15 micro inches due to the potential for plating process variability. OEMs requesting gold plating thinner than 15 micro inches should further substantiate contact performance.
Test Results:
Socket 5 and Socket 7 test results were obtained by using a 320-pin PGA package with a 0.80 x 1.85 x 1.85" aluminum pin fin heat sink. Total mass of package and heat sink: 84 grams.
Socket 8 test results were obtained by using a 387-pin PGA package with a 1.13 x 2.56 x 2.13 " Delron mass. Total mass of package and heat sink: 250 grams.
Header 7 test results were obtained by using a 30 pin simulation board with a Delron mass attached to simulate circuit and thermal solution weight. Total mass of simulation board and Delron block: 60 grams.
Header 8 test results were obtained by using a 40 pin simulation board with a Delron mass attached to simulate circuit and thermal solution weight. Total mass of simulation board and Delron block: 75 grams.
