Processor Fan Speed Reported Incorrectly

Symptom(s):

  • The fan speed reported in the BIOS varies from very slow speeds to very high speeds (10 RPM to 20,000 RPM) or the fan speed is marked N/A.
  • The fan appears to be spinning at a normal speed.

Cause:
The processor fan may be connected to the wrong fan header or the BIOS may not be reading the fan signal correctly

Solution:
Check the motherboard manual to verify the processor fan is connected to the correct fan header on the board. If this doesn't resolve the problem, contact the system or motherboard manufacturer for assistance. This issue maybe corrected by doing a BIOS update.
