Symptom: All of the lights, or the 'Tape in Use' light on the front of the DLT drive flash(es) repeatedly and the drive will not properly accept a tape.
Description: The data cartridge tape was forced out of the tape drive before the 'Operate Handle' came on. It is possible that the tape had an internal binding problem without external intervention.
The DLT drive's take-up reel guide was displaced from the link buckling mechanism inside the drive.
Solution: Replace the take-up reel guide to its proper place on the link buckling mechanism. The following illustrations demonstrate how the replacement is done.
- Remove the plastic cover towards the back of the drive.
- You will most likely find the take-up reel guide wrapped loosely around the take-up reel.
- Carefully thread the take-up reel guide counter-clockwise around the outside of the head and guide assembly rollers.
- While manipulating the link buckling mechanism from the side of the drive, carefully replace the hook on the mechanism through the slot on the take-up reel guide.
- Move the link buckling mechanism back and forth to make sure that the take-up reel guide is securely placed
- The hook on the link buckling mechanism should be through the slot in the take-up reel guide. This can be verified by looking through the front of the drive.
- Put the drive back in place and power up the StorageExpress system. Try another tape. If this procedure has been followed properly, the DLT drive should accept the tape. The 'tape in use' light will flash while the tape is loading, and turn solid when the tape is ready for use.
