Intel® TokenExpress? Adapter
Driver Installation, NetWare* - OS/2 Requester

OS/2 Requester Installation

This file contains instructions specific for the installation and operation of Intel's TokenExpress™ adapter driver. Refer to the appropriate Network Operation System documentation for any NOS-specific questions or other information.

These instructions apply to Release 5.0 of the software.

Installing and Configuring the Intel® TokenExpress™ adapter NetWare* OS/2 Requester Driver with Novell's OS/2 LAN Requester v2.x

  1. Follow Novell's installation instructions for installing NetWare Requester. During the installation you are asked to enter the name of the Network Interface Card driver. Enter "OCTOK16.SYS", this is the ODI driver for OS/2.

  2. Choose the kind of session support you prefer for your configuration.

  3. Click on "Save" to save the configuration.

  4. When prompted, insert the Intel TokenExpress drivers diskette #1 in drive A:, and type:

    A:\OS2\OCTOK16.SYS

    The config.sys file will be modified to include the statement:

    "DEVICE=C:\NETWARE\OCTOK16.SYS".

  5. Continue with the installation. When the installation is complete, select "Configuration", "This Workstation." Enter the following in the NET.CFG file:

    Link Driver OCTOK16 Frame Token-Ring Frame Token-Ring_SNAP Link Support Buffers 15 4202

    The NetWare Requester installation is now complete.

  6. Reboot your system.

You may now log into the network.

Notes on Source Routing NOVELL's module ROUTE.SYS must be loaded if Source Routing is used in the installation. ROUTE.SYS is NOT copied automatically by the installation utility. To copy ROUTE.SYS during the installation, you may need to install the IBM Token-Ring adapter driver TOKEN.SYS. After the installation completes, you need to copy OCTOK16.SYS to the directory on the OS/2 workstation containing the NetWare drivers (typically \NETWARE). Modify the DEVICE statement in the CONFIG.SYS file so that

OCTOK16.SYS is loaded instead of TOKEN.SYS.

Replace
DEVICE=<path>TOKEN.SYS
with
DEVICE=<path>OCTOK16.SYS

The steps above may also be necessary with older versions of the NetWare OS/2 requester even if Source Routing is not used.

An alternative method is to copy ROUTE.SYS from the OS/2 Requester diskettes to the directory on the OS/2 workstation, and include the following line in CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICE=<path>ROUTE.SYS

Optional configuration parameters in NET.CFG This section lists the optional configuration parameters for the Intel TokenExpress OS/2 Requester driver. These parameters are in addition to those listed in the NetWare OS/2 Requester manual.

Parameter Function
Source Routing Enables source routing (Default: source routing disabled).
Early Token Release 0 Disables early token release, (Default: 1, enable early token release).
Port [hex_num] Selects the adapter base I/O address. [hex_num] is one of the following addresses:

Port Value I/O Range ISA/8,ISA 16/4,MC 16/4,ISA/16sand EISA 16/4 adapters I/O Range EISA/32 Adapter
A20 A20-A23 & A30-A3F A18-A23 & A30-A3F
A24 A24-A27 & A40-A4F A24-A2F & A40-A4F
A50 A50-A53 & A60-A6F A50-A53 & A58-A6F
A54 A54-A57 & A70-A7F A54-A57 & A70-A87
1A20 Not available 1A18-1A23 & 1A30-1A3F
1A24 Not available 1A24-1A2F & 1A40-1A4F
1A50 Not available 1A50-1A53 & 1A58-1A6F
1A54 Not available 1A54-1A57 & 1A70-1A87

Note: The driver does not recognize the "slot=" parameter with the EISA 16/4, EISA/32, or MC 16/4 adapters. The adapter is identified using the I/O address.

Node Address [address] Overrides the adapter's Burned-In Address. [address] must be a twelve-digit hexadecimal number in the range 4000 0000 0000 - 7FFF FFFF FFFF.

If used, these parameters should be added to the NET.CFG file following the "Link Driver" entry. For example:

Link Driver OCTOK16 Link Driver must have no spaces before it. Options below the Link driver entry must be indented a minimum of one space.

The following is a sample NET.CFG entry for an Intel® TokenExpress™ adapter configuration:

Link driver OCTOK16 Source Routing
Early Token Release 1
Port A50
Node Address 4123456789AC

This applies to:
TokenExpress™ 16/p Adapter
TokenExpress™ EISA 16/4 Adapter
TokenExpress™ EISA 32 Adapter
TokenExpress™ MCA Adapter
