Background:
Intel® Viiv™ software version 1.5 and 1.6 may not recognize certain Intel® Viiv™ technology verified routers with WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).
What is WPS?
WPS stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup and is designed to make it easier to set up and configure security on wireless home networks. It is also known as “Simple Config.” See WiFi Alliance for additional information.
Error Messages:
During the network setup, the following error messages may occur:
- Your router is not verified for Intel Viiv technology.
- Your PC is wired to a router, but that router is not verified to work with Intel Viiv Technology. To set up a network using this router, select exit and follow the router manufacturer's instructions.
When adding a new device to the existing home network, the following error may occur:
- Your PC is not wired to Intel Viiv Technology Verified Router.
- To add this device wirelessly, follow the device manufacturer’s instructions for a standard home network, not the manufacturer’s instructions for an Intel Viiv technology-based home network. To wire this device, you must connect the device directly to a router using an Ethernet network cable.
Solutions:
Windows* XP Users:
If you have an Intel Viiv technology-based PC with Windows XP, disable the WPS feature in the router. Instructions to do this are provided by the wireless router manufacturer.
Windows Vista* Users:
If you have an Intel Viiv technology-based PC with Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, you have two options to resolve the error.
- Upgrade your Intel Viiv software to the latest version (1.7 or higher). See Get Software Updates for information on how to upgrade your Intel Viiv software.
Note: Windows Vista users with Intel Viiv software version 1.7 will not see “Set up a network” button on the Intel Viiv Settings screen.
- Disable the WPS feature. To do this, see the wireless router manufacturer instructions.
