Use the following steps to connect to an unsecure WiFi network on Microsoft Windows Vista*.
| Note |
Connecting to any type of computer network, WiFi included, without implementing security is not a recommended practice. This document is provided for basic configuration purposes only. |
- Access the Network and Sharing Center using Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center or another method.
- Select Manage wireless networks.
- Click Add.
- Click Add a network that is in range of this computer. In this example, wireless-n is the network that will be added.
| Note |
Many network names, known as SSIDs, have security enabled. Connecting to such networks requires the user know the correct passphrase or preshared key. |
- Select your wireless network from the list.
- Click Connect.
- You will receive a warning about connecting to an unsecured network. Click Connect Anyway. If the network addition is successful, you will see a window with the message: "Successfully connected to wireless-n" (wireless-n is used as an example; your chosen network name should appear).
- Select Save this network if you do not want to manually create this connection/profile every time you would like to access the network.
- Select Start this connection automatically if you would like to automatically attempt connection to this network when using wireless.
- Click Close.
If you return to Manage wireless networks at this point, you will see that your network is now listed.
